The space age took over Neil Armstrong's landing on the moon in 1969. This was when in 1961 John F Kennedy had said that America can land their first man on the moon. It led to a curiously space-flight inspired looks in architecture, cars, fashion and industrial designs. When it comes to cars, manufacturers built vehicles with ornamental tail fins similar to streamlining.
The image shows what it's called a Coleopter designed n 1955. It is a kind of transportation that was designed for four different uses; private, guided missle, pilotless interceptor and a light ground-attack plane.
In architecture, John Lautner designed the Chemosphere in 1961 located in Los Angeles. His goal was to show that it was possible to erect a home in an uninhabitable slope. This house has inspired sets on several sci-fi films including Charlies' angels and Lost in Space. It is also considered a historic-cultural monument in Los Angeles.
Fashion also took a major turning point during space age. White, black and silver where the colours mainly to be used like the images below.
As already mentioned in the previous post of Pop Design, there were TV sets that had a form of a sphere which later influenced the space age. Infact as I was going around in a shop in Malta, I found this clock that really reminded of this style. It also has a form of the Ball Chair by Eero Aarnio where both of them include a sphere shape on a stand.
